Why read the Bible?  Part 2

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Everyone desires to have fun today and be made happy.  Whatever happened to the desire to be “blessed?”

I dare say that few there are that even know what the word blessed means.  Blessed means to be content, to be satisfied, to be enjoying spiritual happiness and the favor of God.

How does one obtain this blessedness?  First and foremost you must be a child of God, that is repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21)

The child of God then receives this blessedness by shunning the world and submitting to the Word of God.

Many try to live in both worlds but as someone has said “Sin will keep you from the Word of God or the Word of God will keep you from sin.”

Notice carefully in Psalm 1 that the blessed person “delights” in the law of the LORD.   Here is definitely where the rubber meets the road.  Examine yourself honestly at this point.   Do you “delight” in the Word of God or is Bible reading a ritual or a burden?

Look at your life honestly for the proof of your answer.  When was the last time you actually received a jewel from just reading the Word of God?  When was the last time you shared a jewel from your Bible reading with someone?  When did you last write something down that the Lord gave you from His Word?   When was the last time the Lord challenged you from His Word to change something in your life for Him?  When was the last time you actually took a word or a passage from the Bible and studied it because you had the unquenchable desire to be blessed?

If you can’t honestly answer these questions with a definite time, then it’s definitely time to begin Reading the Bible.

WHY READ THE BIBLE?   Part 1

The Lord spoke to Joshua and said , ”This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Joshua was a man of God and the Lord wanted him to grow in godly leadership.  God’s desire today is the same for each man.  How greatly we need GODLY MEN today in the home and in the workplace!!!  However, it will not happen until Christian men consistently get into the book of the law which is the Word of God.

We desperately need men who will meditate in God’s Word day and night that they may “observe to do all that is written therein.”

Notice with great care the phrase “observe to do all that is written therein”.  The man of God is not just to do all that is written therein or to do just parts of that which is written therein but OBSERVE TO DO ALL that is written therein.

If you are a Christian, are you observing to do all that is written in the Word of God or are you just getting by with your Sunday fix of religion?  If you’re not a Christian, why not turn to God at this moment, repent of your sin and receive Jesus Christ who wants to give you the desire to “observe to do all that is written therein.”

WHY READ THE BIBLE?   So that you can be a consistent, godly leader in your personal life, in your family life and in your social life.   THAT, dear reader, is true prosperity and good success!
